Thirty new faculty members, administrators and staff at the University of North Dakota are getting a first-hand look at the state – by bus.
It’s the 25th time UND has hosted this bus tour.
Adam Matz came to UND from Lexington, Kentucky. He will be teaching criminal justice.
"This is a particularly good job opportunity," Matz said. "I looked at different places across the country, and it worked out."
Matz said he likes the climate here -- at least right now. He also likes Grand Forks.
"I think it's a pretty town," Matz said. "It's very picturesque, especially the downtown area. It's a smaller city, but it still has things to do. It's still large enough."
Barb Kitko is a second year instructor in social work. She was unable to go on the tour last year. Kitko is from Grand Forks, and has two degrees from UND.
"I love the small-town atmosphere," Kitko said. "It's a 'small town-big town' feel. The college and the Air Force base provide a lot of diversity in our city."
Along with classroom instruction, Kitko also teaches on-line courses.
"On-line classes are pretty exciting," Kitko said. "The things you can do with technology are quite amazing. And I think students are getting a good experience at UND."
The bus trip wraps up Wednesday (Aug. 17).
