The chairman of the House Government and Veterans Affairs Committee says February 5th will be “Balanced Budget Day” in his committee.

Rep. Jim Kasper (R-Fargo) says the panel will hear four measures that call for a federal balanced budget amendment.

"And we'll have leaders of all four of those movements coming in from all over the United States to testify," said Kasper.

One of the measures is being pushed by Ohio Governor Jon Kasich. He met with GOP lawmakers in Bismarck.

"The quicker we get this done, the more momentum we cause to change the culture," said Kasich. "After having spent 18 years in Washington,  I know that without the backstop, without the discipline, we're going to continue to mortgage our kids' future. That is just flat out wrong."

Kasich needs 34 states to call for an amendment. His staff says so far, 24 states are on board.
