A rally for law enforcement was held at the state Capitol Sunday.

Several hundred people turned out.

"It's showing law enforcement that people are here to support them," said event organizer Kimberly Kruska. "That was our goal."

Kruska said with officers working overtime to keep the peace at the Dakota Access Pipeline protest, this show of support is a good thing for morale.

Pat Dever has a son-in-law who is a deputy sheriff.

"They are exhausted and abused," Dever said. "All they're doing is their job. Enough is enough."

Congressman Kevin Cramer told the crowd people don’t express their gratitude to police often enough. And he asked law enforcement for forgiveness.

"But we would hope you worul see, in our normal, everyday walk, that the absence of our concern is a testimony to our gratitude," Cramer said. "By doing your job, we appear to take you for granted."

Law enforcement from around North Dakota – and from out of state – have helped Morton County during the protests.
