Med Center One "officially" Sanford West

You can now officially call it “Sanford West.”

Bismarck’s Med Center One has a new sign in the window. But staffers there are promising the same quality of health care people have come to know.

Med Center One is now part of a much larger organization. Sanford Chief Operating Officer Becky Nelson says in health care, bigger is better.

"You get the economies of scale, especially in this part of the country," said Nelson. "We're over 200,000 square miles, but there's not a lot of people in that area. So the more people we can bring together, the more services we're able to provide."

Sanford West President Dr. Craig Lambrecht echoes that.

"We know we're going to get cut in (Medicare) reimbursement," said Lambrecht. "With the federal budget crisis, and the way Medicare is going to cut us, we couldn't sustain those cuts by ourselves. Being part of a large organization that's integrated like we are, we can expand services. And we're going to do it in a way that allows us to do it very well."

Lambrecht says over the next several months, there will be a lot of "positive changes" that he says will enhance patient care.
