Medical marijuana program ready for applicants

Patient applications are open for North Dakota's medical marijuana program.

Jason Wahl is director for the Division of Medical Marijuana at the North Dakota Department of Health. He says this is a major milestone for the program. Wahl says applications are available for anyone wishing to be a qualifying patient or registered designated caregiver. He says interested individuals can visit www.ndhealth.gov/mm to find the appropriate application. Wahl says individuals will need to create an account before beginning the application process, which involves uploading information about themselves - including a copy of their driver's license and information regarding their health care provider. Wahl says it may still be a few more weeks before the registration cards are available for patients and caregivers.

"There's still a lot of moving parts in regards to determining when products will be available - from having dispensaries becoming operational, to getting the laboratory that will conduct the required compliance testing of marijauna and the marijuana products, as well as the manufacturing facility finishing their processing and producing. Right now if the products weren't to be available by the end of December of this year, we'd be looking at early on in January of 2019."

State law requires a $50 application fee for both qualifying patients and designated caregivers.
