NDSU students ready for classes tomorrow

John Corley

Freshmen at North Dakota State University were welcomed to campus today by both student and faculty leadership figures.

In addition to hearing remarks from President Dr. Dean Bresciani, the new students heard words of wisdom from their peers - student body vice president Anuj (anew) Teotia, and student body president Spencer Moir. Teotia came to NDSU as a freshman three years ago all the way from New Delhi, India to major in math and computer science. He says several members of his family have attended college here, including one of his brothers. He says he had to come and experience it for himself.

"I just celebrated my 21st birthday yesterday, and when I first came to NDSU I was turning 18, so just those three years I have been at NDSU - the entire journey, meeting so many people, meeting so many friends - this brings back so many memories of me sitting on a flight, leaving my parents at the airport - saying hey, I'm going to NDSU and I'm going to love it! It's been an incredible experience over the last three years."

Moir came to NDSU from Rochester, Minnesota. He majors in industrial engineering and management. He says he wants the incoming freshmen to remember two things - to stay true to themselves, but not be afraid to step outside their comfort zones. He says that was one thing he did that helped him become more involved on campus.

"I was very introverted my first year - I kinda sat in my room most of the time. I wasn't very good in front of groups of people. But I've been able to grow so much in my involvement here, because I had people who helped push me outside of those comfort zones. That's definitely my piece of advice for incoming freshmen."

Students start classes on Tuesday this week.
