New natural gas processing plant to be built in McKenzie County

An Oklahoma-based natural gas processing firm has announced it will be building a new processing plant in McKenzie County.

The Demicks Lake plant will process 200 million cubic feet of gas per day. It’ll cost between $605 million and $785 million to build.

"As part of this investment, the partnership will also additional natural gas compression at the partnership's five existing natural gas plants," said OneOK president Terry Spencer. "And we will build 12 miles of natural gas liquids gathering pipeline."

Spencer says that brings One-OK’s gas processing capacity to 1.1 billion cubic feet per day. He says the company’s investments in the Bakken will total more than $7 billion through the year 2016. And Spencer says this will help reduce natural gas flaring.

"With an industry flaring reduction goal of 15 percent by 2016 in North Dakota, we continue to commit resources to build critical infrastructure, and to overcome obstacles to meet this goal," said Spencer.

"It's all part of our very ambitious goal," said Gov. Jack Dalrymple. "We want to capture 90 percent of the gas within 6 years. And that does require major investments like this."

The new plant is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2016.
