The new, $124 million building for the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences is being formally dedicated Friday (10-14-16).

The 2013 Legislature approved the new building.

Medical school dean Dr. Joshua Wynne said the building will benefit all of North Dakota in a number of ways.

"It is a health care facility that will enable us to accommodate larger class sizes," Wynne said in an interview. "That will enable us to provide more health care providers out in the community.  And these are health care providers that have been schooled, and are used to a team-based approach to both learning and patient care."

Wynne said the bricks and mortar are important – but what happens inside the building is much more so.

"And that is to educate, to discover new knowledge that will be important to the people," Wynne said. "That will improve the quality of their lives. And it will improve the service we deliver to the community."

Wynne said for instance, there is now space for the expanded Center for Rural Health, which provides support to every county in North Dakota.
