The North Dakota Air National Guard is on active duty.

By Hope Deutscher

Fargo, ND – The North Dakota Air National Guard is on active duty.

Master Sergeant Dave Somdahl says it won't affect every member of the unit, but he says it is probably the biggest activation since the Korean War.

Somdahl says information on how many people were called to duty or what missions they are on are not available to the public. The unit flies 20 F-16 fighter planes.

Somdahl says individual pilots from the unit have been called to duty since the terrorist attacks on Tuesday. He says the activation today changes the status of the unit itself and affects more people.

The Fargo-based guard unit was last activated during the 1991 Gulf War ? when 108 members were called up. Somdahl says today's activation is much larger than that.
