In North Dakota’s latest legislative session an advisory board to the state Agriculture Commissioner was created in order to research and market the grape and wine industry throughout the state.
Paul Anderson is from Rutland, North Dakota. He is the President of the North Dakota Grape and Wine Association. Anderson said the advisory committee met for the first time Friday.
Anderson says the Legislature appropriated $80,000 for research, education and promotion in the grape and wine industry. The Department of Agriculture is in charge of how this money in spent.
“We’re excited and we appreciate the fact the legislature saw a fit to support our industry,” Anderson said. “We want to go in and make some good decisions of how to spend that money; to make it the best it can for both the grape and wine industries.”
Anderson said the first meeting is an organizational meeting. The committee will elect a chairman vice chairman, and how to stay within the realms of the legislation.
