North Dakotans are still playing the Lottery.
"Right now, this fiscal year, we're actually up about 16 percent compared to the same time frame last year," said state Lottery Director Ryan Koppy. The figures are since July First, the beginning of FY 2018.
"Last fiscal year (FY2017) was our third highest sales total in the state lottery's history," Koppy said. "So right now, we're off to a very good start in this fiscal year."
Koppy said in the last fiscal year, the Lottery made $6.2 million for the state. He said in the previous year, the transfer was just over $9 million. Koppy said that's because of a big Powerball jackpot, that really spiked sales. That jackpot was over $1.5 billion.
Koppy said North Dakota has a very good portfolio of lottery games.
"We have a couple of large jackpot games, in Powerball and Mega-Millions," Koppy said. "Now we have Lotto America, the Lucky-for-Life game, where someone can win $1000 a day for life. And we still have the popular '2-by-2' game."
Koppy said North Dakota has had a bunch of jackpot winners recently. He said the last one happened Nov. 3rd, and in October, there were 8 2 by 2 winners of $22,000 each.
