Valley City State University is one step closer to having a new President. After a final round of on-campus interviews this week, a search committee has narrowed the list of five candidates down to three. The names will be brought to the state Board of Higher Education, with the new president to possibly be selected from the group. Greg Stemen is a member of the Board of Higher Education and co-chairs the search committee. He says it took a good deal of time and thought to get to this point. He says the committee had a strong field of applicants to work with…

“…There are individuals that have worked or are working at institutions that have similar profiles and maybe in this region have backgrounds or experience in the region working at similar-type institutions. A couple of them have had some long tenures at their current institution and have been extremely selective about where they’ve looked for additional career opportunities. The third candidate has worked previously up in this area and also spent some time outside of higher education before he got back inton higher education. There are some similarities and there are things unique about each candidate that the committee though valuable and interesting."

The final three include…  Dr. Jack Geller – the current dean of College of Social Sciences, Mathematics and Education at University of Tampa…  The provost and vice president for academic affairs, Northern State University – Dr. Ian LaFave… and Dr. James Williams. He serves as vice president for student affairs, Emporia State University. The three will be interviewed by the Board of Higher Education, in two weeks.
