Canada’s minister of infrastructure and communities is he’s hoping negotiations on the North American Free Trade Agreement will strengthen what’s already in place.

Amarjeet Sohi was in Bismarck to speak to the local Chamber of Commerce.

"We are hopeful we will be able to negotiate a NAFTA that works for everyone and will continue to enhance our shared prosperity," Sohi said in an interview with Prairie Public.

The Canadian Consul General to Minneapolis says Canada is optimistic about the renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Paul Connors was in Bismarck to speak to the Chamber of Commerce.

In an interview with Prairie Public, Connors said the negotiation is very technical in nature, and a lot of hard work for the negotiators from Canada, Mexico and the US. He said the work is going very well – in terms of making the agreement better.

'Canada day' scheduled March 5th

March 5th will be “Canada Day” at the North Dakota Legislature.

It’s being promoted as a day to show the friendship between the two countries – and especially between North Dakota and its Canadian neighbors.

Brian Shipley is with the Canadian Counsel General’s office in Minneapolis. He says people may not understand the magnitude of the relationship.
