Enjoy free family entertainment, children’s games, refreshments, and tours through the Former Governors’ Mansion State Historic Site at 320 East Ave. B in Bismarck at the annual Ice Cream Social on Aug. 12. Free hot dogs and ice cream will be available. Featured performers Fiddlin' Johnny and John Lardinois will perform at 12:30 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. At 1 p.m., representatives from the State Historical Society and the Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors’ Mansion will present an overview of the past, present, and future of the site. A tribute to former First Lady Grace Link at 2:15 p.m. will include Emcee Ryan Taylor, Senator Erin Oban, and the Link family. Gateway to Science will provide activities for children and families on the east lawn. All times are approximate. The event is sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the Society for the Preservation of the Former Governors’ Mansion. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 502 N. Fourth St. Additional parking will be available at Trinity Lutheran Church and St. George’s Episcopal Church at 601 N. Fourth St. The Former Governors’ Mansion is a state historic site managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Admission is free.
