Strategic Planning Brings On Texas group

By T.McDonald

Bismarck, ND – A Texas-based consulting firm has been hired to help the state develop a strategic plan for the state's Commerce Department. Department Commissioner Lee Peterson says the plan will help generate new jobs by closely partnering the public and private sectors. Peterson says Angelou Economics was one of 12 companies that submitted bids for the job. He says the idea is to bring all efforts together, into one that is focussed?
"This plan is so different because it's being done by the private sector Economic Development Foundation, giving us direction at the department on the goals that are needed to move North Dakota forward. And then allowing us to operate with those goals in mind and actually monitor the progress, look at benchmarks. That's been one of the most difficult things for many people in the state, is 'how do we measure what we're doing?' And o we're going to come away from hat with some very specific measurements of how we're doing."
The plan is expected to be in place by mid-June, and could set the course for the state for next five years. About 94-thousand dollars has been allocated to develop the comprehensive strategic plan. The company has made similar plans for states like Texas, and Utah.
