Basin looking for workers soon

By Dave Thompson

Bismarck, ND – Basin Electric Power Cooperative will soon be hiring.

A portion of Basin's workforce will be retiring. And the co-op is getting ready to build new generation facilities.
Basin General Manager Ron Harper says the co-op is preparing for that. And he says it helps that Basin is a good place to work.

"We seem to be doing something right," said Harper. "If you look at the tenure of our people, it suggests that we are doing something right. We just have to keep doing what we're doing -- continue to work with Bismarck State College and other colleges and universities to give us skilled workers, and go from there."

Bismarck State College has a program in power plants and the energy field.

Harper says Basin has been speaking to high school and college students about the energy industry and its high-paying jobs.
