Missing Belcourt girls found

By Dave Thompson

Bismarck, ND – Two 13-year-old Belcourt girls who went missing for nearly three days have been found safe in Bismarck.

LaRaya LaVallie and Brianna Mayer were last seen at Bismarck's Kirkwood Mall about 6 pm Thursday, talking to two men. Authorities said the men might have lured the girls to the mall over the Internet.

A statewide AMBER alert was issued. The girls were found in north Bismarck yesterday afternoon -- uninjured.

"We had received a tip on the hotline," said Bismarck Police Lieutenant Dan Donlin.
"A citizen reported seeing two girls matching the descriptions getting into a vehicle in North Bismarck. Law enforcement was able to locate that vehicle, and upon the officers making contact, they were able to positively identify them as being our two missing girls."

Donlin would not say whether authorities believe the girls were taken against their will -- or on whether the girls wanted to be found. He says other people who were with the girls were being interviewed, but no arrests were immediately made.

"We just want to make sure that we gather all the information we can in determining the activites that have occurred while they (the girls) have been missing," Donlin said.
