A new clinic is going up in Mandan.
St. Alexius Medical Center’s clinic in Mandan will be expanded to a new location and will serve more people. The 22-thousand square foot, 306 bed facility will staff an additional 20 or so employees, including four new physicians. The site is located at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Old Red Trail in Mandan. Kurt Waldbillig is Vice President for Physicians Services and Outreach with St. A’s. He says the new clinic will help address a growing demand for health care in Mandan, Morton County, and into the west.
"We looked at doing some studies and looked at the reason why Mandan's education system is looking at building a new school. You know, there's been an increase of roughly 167 students registered in Mandan's public schools, which is about a 5.2 increase than from before that. From 2000 to 2010, there was an 8 percent increase in population in the Mandan area. And estimates from the Mandan area demographic - it's to have another 5 percent increase between 2010 and 2015," Waldbillig says.
The cost for the new facility is estimated at about 8 million dollars, and space on its second floor will be reserved for future growth plans. It’s scheduled to be open in early 2014.
