State Chamber to meet with college presidents

The Greater North Dakota Chamber has invited college presidents to a roundtable discussion of higher education, to be held in Bismarck Wednesday.

Chamber president and CEO Andy Peterson says the business community needs to get involved in higher education.

"Business has not been as involved with higher education as it should have been over the last few years," said Peterson. "This is the beginning of a discussion to foster the relationship between higher education and business, so that at the end of the day, we have a better-prepared workforce for the future."

Peterson says it’s natural for business to be concerned about what’s happening on the college campuses.

"We hear from companies across North Dakota every day, who say to us, 'Our biggest challenge is workforce -- we can't get enough workers, we can't get the right kind of workers, we can't expand and we can't grow,'" said Peterson. "We're bringing that message to higher education, and suggesting higher ed and business work together."

The meeting will be held Wednesday (Aug. 14th) at the Bank of North Dakota.
