North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley says two “trigger laws” concerning abortion restrictions have now been activated – and will take effect at the end of July.
One of the laws – passed by the Legislature in 2007 – bans most abortions, with exceptions for rape, incest and preserving the life of the woman. The other – passed in 2019 – bans the “dilation and evacuation” abortion method, except for medical emergencies.
Wrigley said now that the US Supreme Court has ruled in the Dobbs case that that states have the authority to regulate and prohibit abortions, the two “trigger” laws will take effect July 28th.
North Dakota has one abortion clinic – in Fargo. And the owner plans to move it to neighboring Moorhead.
