North Dakota Democratic NPL caucus-goers favored Bernie Sanders over Hillary Clinton last night.
The caucuses were held to elect delegates to a statewide meeting June 18th, where the delegates to the national convention will be chosen. Under party rules, 394 delegates will go to that Bismarck meeting. Of those, 253 voted for Sanders, and 101 voted for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The remaining 40 were uncommitted.
Sanders supporters chanted “Feel Feel Bern Bern” before the votes were taken at the Bismarck caucuses.
Dr. Vinod Seth spoke for Sanders at the District 35 meeting.
"Enough is enough is enough is enough," Seth told the delegates. "It's time to take back our country. It is time to join the political revolution."
Former US Attorney – and Bismarck lawyer – Tim Purdon asked the district’s delegates to support Clinton. He said this fall’s campaign is going to be a “street fight.”
"When you show up for a street fight, you know who you want with you? Hillary Clinton," Purdon said. "She has been tested. She has been through more than any politician in the history of this country. Hillary Clinton is the path to victory this fall."
The caucuses were boisterous, but respectful. That was illustrated by Seth and Purdon giving each other a fist-bump at the end of the speeches.
