American Red Cross Is Recruiting Law Enforcement Volunteers

Fargo, ND – The American Red Cross is recruiting volunteers with law enforcement backgrounds only to assist with safety and security concerns in New York City and Washington D.C.

Executive Director of the Minn-Kota Chapter of the American Red Cross, Kathy Schons says these volunteers will act as liaisons with the law enforcement community.

"With the resources of law enforcement being very limited, these personnel would not be serving in a law enforcement capacity, but would be acting as liaisons with law enforcement. So there knowledge would be very helpful and would be able to support law enforcement and also be able to ensure that disaster sites would be safe and secure for not only home owners and residences but emergency personnel as well."

Schons says the Red Cross needs the volunteers to serve immediately for three weeks.

She says volunteers need to a sworn-officer background in local, state or federal law enforcement.

"This time we're not doing an all-call for volunteers. This is a specialty area we've never been in before but we're very anxious to hear from people who have this background. I know at this time there are many law enforcement personnel who are being activated with the reserve troops. This is further pinching the law enforcement as it is. But if people have retired from law enforcement or have moved on to a new line of work, but would be available--we'd be anxious to hear from them."
