BSC Offers Smart Grid Courses

A grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Energy is allowing Bismarck State College National Energy Center of Excellence to offer Smart Grid courses.

Training and program manager for the National Energy Center of Excellence Alicia Uhe said the center is partnered with companies across the country to develop Smart Grid curriculums.

"The courses range from entry level, explaining what the Smart Grid is, to learning how to operate the Smart Grid and impacts it will make for employees that  interact with basically this technology in their day to day job. And this last course is talking about the impact this will have on employees and the country as a whole," Uhde said.

Smart Grid is often described as how electricity is delivered in the 21st century. Uhde said any one who works at any utility job is recommended to take these courses. The course will help employees understand why and how smart grid changes will impact their jobs, she said.

"It affects everything from new technology to computers to the functions you have at your own home. It is really the integration of this; making it more streamlined, more efficient and basically more computerized," Uhde said.

The Smart Grid courses are open for enrollment.  Anyone who is interested should go to BSC’s energy website.
