Burlington bridge now re-opens; reconstruction part of the Mouse River Flood Control project

A milestone for Burlington.

As part of the Mouse River Flood Control project, the Colton Avenue Bridge has been re-opened to traffic.

"It's the first project outside the city of Minot that is coming to completion," said Dusty Zimmerman of Ackerman-Estvold, the firm hired to do the design and engineering work for the flood control project.

Zimmerman said it's the first phase of two phases for the city.

"Having this first phase completed will allow for the levy phase to be completed," Zimmerman said. "We're anticipating that will take place over the next couple of years."

The levy system will run along the river – and will connect with the bridge. The bridge was raised – and lengthened.

"That allows additional conveyance of water through the river in that area," Zimmerman said. "The levy will be a dirt levy, going throughout the city of Burlington."
