Commerce Commissioner Kommer resigns

North Dakota Department of Commerce

North Dakota's Commerce Commissioner has resigned, citing a return to the private sector.

Michelle Kommer was appointed to the post in December of 2018 by Governor Doug Burgum. Burgum had previously appointed her to serve as the state labor commissioner in December of 2016, and then as executive director of Job Service North Dakota the following year.

In a statement, Burgum says he is deeply grateful for Kommer's service, saying her leadership had a positive impact on the lives of North Dakotans.

In her own statement, Kommer says she plans to work with the Burgum administration to ensure a smooth transition at the Commerce Department. Her last day will be October 2nd.

Kommer says she plans to resume full time operation of her business.
