About 300 North Dakotans may lose their health insurance through the federal insurance Marketplace if they do not turn in proper paperwork.
Ubon Mendie is public affairs officer for the Regional Director's Office of Health and Human Services, overseeing North Dakota. He says that these 300 residents may not have issues with being eligible for the coverage - they simply need to provide the proper identification documents. He says there have been numerous attempts to contact these people via phone, email and mail, and if proper documents are not submitted by September 5th coverage will end on September 30th.
"It's just something very simple - it's an inconsistency that sometimes occurs when social security numbers and other documents that may confirm citizenship are a little bit different. It can just be an input error or any type of inconsistency. We know that we have a lot of people that are qualified for these services, and we want to make sure we can protect the taxpayer and make sure that we keep some kind of accountability to the system by making sure we get these inconsistent documents."
Mendie says the documents can be submitted online by logging on to healthcare.gov, or by mailing them to the Healthcare Insurance Marketplace directly. About 310-thousand people nationwide will need to respond with their documents or risk losing their coverage.
