Fugitive task force shows 'impressive' results in the first four months of operation

In June, the US Marshal’s High Plains Fugitive Task Force expanded to the Bismarck-Mandan area.

That month, Bismarck and Mandan Police Departments and the Burleigh and Morton County Sheriff's Offices became part of that task force. The goal: capturing the most wanted fugitives and bring them to justice.

Since that time, the agencies have captured 100 fugitives. They were arrested, based on outstanding warrants for distribution of dangerous drugs, robbery, sexual assault and firearms violations. In addition, the Task Force members seized 228 grams of meth, one gram of heroin and one handgun.

"I was surprised at the numbers when I saw them," said US Marshal for North Dakota Dallas Carlson. "I knew they were busy. But the numbers were great."

Carlson said it's not only the numbers of arrests.

"It's the information they got during those arrests that was useful to other investigators, trying to locate folks they were working cases on," Carlson said.

The High Plains Task Force now has offices in Fargo, Bismarck and Grand Forks. Carlson said it operates throughout the state of North Dakota.
