Interim committee meetings canceled; Legislative Council staffer tests positive for COVID-19

(updated 1:46 pm)

Several Legislative interim committee meetings have been canceled this week, because a staffer at the Legislative Council has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Legislative Council director John Bjornson said the person who tested positive has limited contact with other staff or Legislators, but he said, “Out of an abundance of caution, the chairmen of the committees decided to cancel the meetings.”

Affected were the interim Health Care Committee, which was scheduled to meet today and tomorrow; the interim Government Finance Committee, which was to meet tomorrow; the interim Water Topics Committee, scheduled Wednesday and Thursday in Minot; the Employee Benefits Programs Committee, scheduled Wednesday, and the Information Technology Committee, scheduled Thursday.

In addition, two interim meetings scheduled next week – Higher Education and Natural Resources – have also been canceled.

Bjornson said the person who tested positive is doing well, and so far is asymptomatic.
