Jamestown company facing more 'do-not-call' fines

A Jamestown contractor now faces 14 complaints that it violated North Dakota’s “Call Before You Dig” law.

Most of the complaints against Northern Excavating came from work it was doing in and around Ross, North Dakota. One complaint came from MDU in Bismarck.

This week, 7 complaints were filed against the company – and Public Service Commission staff have proposed fines totaling $42,500 in those cases.

"The last time we dealt with this, the same company faced fines of over $17,000," said PSC Chairman Brian Kalk. "At the time, I said this was by far and away the biggest we've dealt with."

Kalk says a formal hearing will be held in December on the earlier complaints. He says Northern Excavating has 20 days to respond to the new round of complaints.
