Ninth annual "Take Back the Night" rally in Bismarck

By Dave Thompson

Bismarck, ND – More than 50 people -- mostly women -- marched around the Capitol grounds in Bismarck last night -- the ninth annua; "Take Back the Night" rally against domestic violence.

Dianne Susag is a survivor of domestic violence. And she drew a parallel between violence in the home and the terrorist attacks of September 11th.

"An abuser is a terrorist. He can strike at any time. And we don't know what damages might be done. It could be to you physically, it could be to your property, it could be to your pets, and the worst case is, it could be to your most precious possession -- your children."

Susag says like the war on terrorists, the efforts to stop domestice violence will take time.

Bonnie Palecek of the Council on Abused Women's Services says in 2000, over six thousand cases of domestic violence were reported, involving nearly four thousand new victims. One person died due to abuse.
