North Dakota Group Pushes for Medical Marijuana

A group hopes to let North Dakotans be able to use marijuana for medical purposes.

North Dakotans for Compassionate Care has 20,000 signatures which allows its measure to be on the November ballot. Dave Schwartz is the campaign director for the organization.

“It’s definitely highly regulated; it’s not going to be like Montana or Colorado where it’s a much larger situation. This is going to be one dispensary per county, 20,000 or more, with the ability for expansion as the state department of health sees the need for,” Schwartz said. “It’s not going to be where there is massive grows, this will be extremely limited.”

The organization’s goal is to educate the public on the medical purposes.

“Once again it’s not full legalization. This is really about medical patients that are in dire need,” Schwartz said. “This is an effective measure and it’s nothing to be afraid of.”

Examples of potential patients who would use medical marijuana include those with cancers, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Chromes Disease and many others.
