"Passport to a Healthy Community" event in Mandan next week

A free event hosted by the Mandan Health Coalition next week aims to connect people with local health resources.

Brady Weaver is with the Mandan Health Coalition, and also serves as Tobacco Prevention Control Coordinator at Custer Health. He says the "Passport to a Healthy Community" event will connect community health care providers to area residents and help spread awareness of what's available within the local area. Weaver says there will also be a drug take-back station, where anyone can drop off unwanted, unused or expired medications.

"We know that a lot of prescription drug abusers get their products from friends and family, and whether it be getting them from medicine cabinets or just around the house - I think most of us probably have a few medications at home we could stand to get rid of. As part of the event, the Mandan Police Department and members of our coalition will be collecting medications."

Weaver says any type of medication can be dropped off, except for any sharp supplies like lancets and syringes. The medications will be properly disposed of after they are dropped off.

Weaver says the event is free and open to the public. It will take place May 30 at the Starion Financial Complex in Mandan from 3 to 7pm.
