Scholastic Art and Writing Awards ~ Trahant Reports ~ Northern Small Farm Alliance

Tuesday, April 10 – The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recognize creative teens. This year, North Dakota had its best showing ever, with six students getting national awards. The Red River Valley Writing Project and the Plains Art Museum are the affiliates for North Dakota. We visit with RRVWP's Kelly Sassi and Netha Cloeter with the Plains Art Museum. ~~~ Writer Allen Kleinsasser shares an essay about his childhood, "Third Grade." ~~~ In this week’s Trahant Reports, Mark Trahant explores the potential consequences of the trade war with China.  ~~~ Meet Ross Lockhart of Heart and Soil Farm. He's active with the Northern Small Farm Alliance, a group of farmers working to enhance and promote local and organically grown food. They’re showing the film “Farmers for America” at Scheels Arena in Fargo on Thursday. It’s a film that looks at the turnover in the nation’s farming communities. The average age of the U.S. farmer is 60, and half of America's farmland is going to change hands in the next 12 years. It’s the story of young people who are stepping up.
