Senate OKs transfer of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center to State Historical Society

ND Parks and Recreation

The Legislature is considering moving the management of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center at Washburn from the state Parks and Recreation Department to the State Historical Society.

That would include the Fort Mandan site.

The Center was built in 1997 by the Lewis and Clark Fort Mandan Foundation in 1997. In 2015, it was transferred to Parks and Recreation.

The Senate already approved it as part of the Parks and Recreation budget.

"It fits more with the mission of the Historical Society," said Sen. Ron Sorvaag (R-Fargo).

Sorvaag said it will be an easy transfer.

The transfer is in the budget bill for Parks and Rec. That bill now goes back to the House for further work.
