  • 3/6/2008: It was touted as the American Dream: a car in every garage; two and a half kids in every home; money in the bank; freedom. Under debate and with many meanings, the American Dream changes here and there, but maintains its essence. When the early immigrants first came to America, those people also sought a different world—one where they could do well, could escape the strife of the worlds they had left behind; one where they could take care of their families and provide a future. Across the country, different families, different cultures, different backgrounds and different dreams converged.
  • 3/11/2008: When one thinks of New York’s court system, North Dakota doesn’t generally come to mind. However, that’s only if one doesn’t know of two University of North Dakota alumni, Salvatore and Mary Dee Martoche. Salvatore Martoche has been an Associate Justice of the New York Supreme Court since January of 2000. His wife, Mary Dee Martoche, a native of Bismarck, is a prominent lawyer in Buffalo, New York.
  • 4/6/2008: The county government of Pierce County was organized on this day in 1889. Located in north-central North Dakota, the county is named for United States Senator and Dakota Territory Governor Gilbert Ashville Pierce.

  • 7/20/2008: Something big lay waiting in the choir loft of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pisek, North Dakota. In 1976, a six foot by 10 foot oil painting worth $25,000 was found hidden behind the organ.
  • 7/21/2008: Medora was a thriving city in 1886, nestled in the Bad Lands of Dakota Territory, but a series of events including blizzards, market fluctuations and the loss of the it's main supporter, the Marquis DeMores, diminished it's significance to all but a small number of businessmen and area ranchers.

  • 6/21/2006: Today would be musician Frank Scott’s 85th birthday. He was born to Frank and Alice Scott, the youngest of three sons, on this date in 1921 in Fargo.
  • 6/23/2006: The first Blaisdell Rodeo was held on this date in 1957. The Blaisdell Rodeo Club organized on August 7, 1956. The goal of the 11 men who started it was to build a rodeo arena for the youth of the community.
