6/5/2004:
During this week in 1893, residents of Milton, ND, were searching for a sea serpent. A May 25th article in the Milton Globe stated, “It is reported that something resembling a young sea serpent has been seen in the lake just north of town. If the weather warms up a little next week, we intend to secure the aid of John Ofstedahl and John F. Anderson and go fishing. The former has a sharp eye for such things, and the latter has powers of description that would do justice to a discovery of the monster.”
In a roundabout way, that story led to discovering a 1958 film titled, “Saga of the Viking Women and Their Voyage to the Waters of the Great Sea Serpent.” It starred Michael Forest, who was born in Harvey, ND, in 1929 and grew up as Gerald Michael Charlebois. He has continued acting ever since, including a key role on Star Trek as “Apollo.”
We’re not sure what happened with the sea serpent north of Milton.
