  • Alois (Al) Kopp was born at Raleigh, North Dakota, on this date in 1918. During the 1930s, jobs were hard to come by so in 1937, Al joined the Navy, becoming a Pharmacists Mate on the heavy cruiser, USS Houston.
  • On this date in 2005, the first of the four Flying Fallgatters, Robert, passed away. The Fallgatter boys grew up in Kintyre, North Dakota, where their father owned the General Merchandise Fallgatter Store.
  • Harry Herbert Crosby was born on this date in 1919 to Guy and Eva Crosby in New England, North Dakota. He later moved with his family to Oskaloosa, Iowa, where during high school, Harry played clarinet and formed an amateur dance band called “Harry Crosby and his Maroon Melodies.”
  • On this date in 1971 the last episode of Hogan’s Heroes aired. It was a television comedy set in a German prisoner of war camp during World War 2. The series started in 1965 and ran for 6 years with a total of 168 episodes.
  • On this date in 1944, the Germans surrounded Bastogne, Belgium, during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. It was also on this date that Clarence Spotted Wolf was killed in operations defending Bastogne.
  • Mary Ada Fisher was born at Somerset, Ohio on July 5th, 1888, the fourth child and only daughter of John and Ameda Fisher. When Mary was 10, she moved with her family to North Dakota to settle the affairs of a deceased uncle. The Fisher family decided to stay and bought a homestead near Wolf Creek where John built the Fisher store and Post Office, which that became known as Fisher, North Dakota.
