The legacy of an accomplished North Dakota artist can still be seen in the Burleigh County Courthouse in Bismarck. Clell Gannon painted a number of murals in the courthouse vestibule, depicting scenes from North Dakota history, such as “Verendrye Meets the Mandans” and “The Sibley Campaign.” The courthouse is in Art Deco style, built during the same period as the state Capitol skyscraper.

A former Burleigh County deputy faces drug and theft charges – after methamphetamine and cell phones in evidence were stolen from the Metro Area Drug Task Force.

Kerry Komrosky was arrested Tuesday night.

Sheriff Pat Heinert side Komrosky was working patrol Saturday when he asked his supervisor for an extra hour of leave. That was granted. But he didn’t show up for more than three hours. Heinert said the supervisor then went to Komrosky’s house. He said the supervisor found evidence of a crime.

Staying Safe in the Summer Heat

Summer isn’t quite over yet with temperatures in the high nineties throughout the state. 

Vonnie Ereth is a Wellness Supervisor at Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health. She said heat exhaustion and heat stroke are two major health concerns people should be aware of during the hot weather.

Elderly adults, children and people working outdoors are at the highest risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. It is important for every person to stay hydrated during the summer heat, Ereth said.

The Morton County Commission approved of building a jail with Burleigh County.

Pat Heinert is Burleigh County Sheriff. He said the future jail can only be built of a home rule charter and half-cent sales tax are passed by voters on the June 10th ballot.

Heinert said he asked for permission to advertise for Request for Qualification of architectural firms at the Burleigh County Commission Meeting.
