Burgum: we are preparing for a surge in patients

At his daily COVID-19 briefing this afternoon, Governor Burgum said a sixth patient has passed away from the novel coronavirus.

He says details on the person who died will be released with tomorrow's test result numbers.

He says he realizes there may be some in North Dakota who worry about the state being prepared for a rush in COVID-19 patients.  But he says his teams are working tirelessly to improve hospital capacity in the event of a surge.

5th death due to COVID-19; 18 new cases

A fifth person has passed away from the novel coronavirus in North Dakota, bringing the statewide death toll to 5. The state health department says the patient was a man in his 60s from Stark County who acquired the virus from community spread. He had underlying health conditions.

18 additional new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the state, bringing the statewide total to 269.

The state health department says with 101 recoveries, that leaves 168 active cases. The new cases include:

State Hospital sees decline in admissions and traffic to its clinics because of COVID-19

The superintendent of the State Hospital in Jamestown said her facility has actually seen a drop in both general admissions and in traffic to the behavioral health clinics.

Dr. Rosalie Etherington said that’s because of COVID-19.

"There are less people coming in, and less people calling and asking for services," Etherington said. "I think it's based on social distancing, and some of the fear. It's just reduced traffic overall."

Burgum: our efforts are working

Governor Doug Burgum says actions taken in North Dakota to flatten the curve are working.

At his daily briefing this afternoon, Burgum says the record number of 835 tests taken yesterday did include numbers from the surveillance project over the weekend. But with only 14 positive results, the positive rate was only 1.6 percent. Burgum says this information is valuable going forward as work continues to "flatten the curve" and reserve medical care for those who will need it most.

14 new COVID-19 cases; 16 new recoveries

Fourteen additional North Dakotans have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 251.

The state health department says with 98 recoveries, that leaves 149 active cases. There have been four deaths.

12 additional COVID-19 cases; 1 new death

The North Dakota Department of Health has confirmed 12 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 237.

 

490 individuals were tested yesterday. 

 

As Governor Doug Burgum said at his daily briefing yesterday, a fourth death due to the novel coronavirus was also confirmed. The patient was a man in his 70s from Emmons County, who had underlying health conditions.
