The state Board of Higher Education has hired Dr. Alan LaFave as the new president of Valley City State University.

LaFave is the current vice-president and provost at Northern State University in Aberdeen. He told reporters VCSU is similar to Northern State – and he’s excited about the opportunity.

"This is just a wonderful opportunity, I think, to come into Valley City at a time when there is a lot of growth happening, and there's a lot of excitement on campus and the community," LaFave said. "I'm just looking forward to being a part of that."

LaFave succeeds Tisa Mason as VCSU’s president. He starts as president December 17th.

"I'm just looking forward to meeting with all of the people, and getting to know everyone," LaFave said. "As we go through that initial opportunity to sit down and discuss some of the things on constituents' minds, those will become a little more clear."
