The developer of the controversial Dakota Access oil pipeline says it intends to meet with federal officials about the government’s decision to stop construction on the project near the Missouri River.
A federal judge ruled last week that the 1,200-mile pipeline project can continue, but three federal agencies asked Energy Transfer Partners to halt work on a stretch of the line. The area extends 20 miles either side of the Missouri River in North Dakota. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is concerned construction there has already disturbed sacred sites.
In a memo, the company says it will meet with officials to quote “understand their position and reiterate our commitment” to the project.
Law enforcement says the company removed some its equipment in the area Tuesday.
