2013 Mosquito Population

As the start of summer approaches so does the mosquito population.

Michelle Feist is an epidemiologist for the North Dakota Department of Health. She said the state department started trapping mosquitos at the end of May. She said so far the count is low.

"I did not see any culex tarsalis mosquitoes, that's the mosquito that transmits West Nile Virus in North Dakota," Feist said. "It wouldn't be alarming if we saw some, we just wouldn't want them in high numbers this early."

Feist said the mosquito population is expected to increase later this summer.
