Fifteen photographers have been named winners of the annual North Dakota Governor’s Photo Contest.
The awards were given out during a ceremony at the North Dakota Heritage Center.
"Marshall Proust, the philosopher, once said, 'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes,'" Gov. Doug Burgum said at the awards ceremony. "Our photographers bring those new eyes to their work. They help us see our own state in a different light. It helps all of us change our views, and raise our self-esteem about this great place where we live."
Awards were given in the categories of Recreation, Road Trips, Badlands Scenery, Beyond the Badlands Scenery and Wildlife. Named “Best In Show” was a photo called “Prairie Dog Embrace,” which shows two prairie dogs hugging. That photo was taken by Tim Samuelson of Fargo.
The photos will be on display at the Heritage Center through mid-November. They will be displayed later at the Cando Arts Center, the James Memorial Arts Center in Williston, and the Arts Center in Jamestown.
