The Public Service Commission wants to know how the utilities they regulate will use money from the $1.3 trillion federal “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.”
"Basically, we're reaching out to the utilities, saying, 'Tells us what you're looking at, in terms of the IIJA," PSC Chairman Julie Fedorchak said. "What new opportunities? How can you take advantage of these? What kind of cooperative relationships might you need to engage in? How can we help?"
Fedorchak said she’s hoping this leads to a full discussion with the electric and natural gas companies, to make sure North Dakota is taking full advantage of the act.
"It's going to be all hands on deck," Fedorchak said. "Not just our agency, but all state agencies."
Fedorchak said North Dakota will try to find a way to maximize all of that funding source, so it's put to good use.
Utilities are asked to have their comments in to the PSC by April 15th.
