"Legend Award" for Williston ~ John Zernan: "A People's History of civilization"

Monday, May 14 – Amy Krueger was the recipient of the governor’s 2018 “Legend Award” for Travel and Tourism. Amy is the director of the Williston Convention and Visitors Bureau. She joins us to discuss Williston’s growth, paddlefish, Band Day, the Chokecherry Festival, chainsaw carving and more. ~~~ The lack of high-speed internet is a real problem in many rural areas. Without it, businesses locate elsewhere, young people flee, and aging residents can’t access telemedicine, meaning communities risk becoming ghost towns. Ben Kuebrich of Harvest Public Media has more. ~~~ Mark Trahant, UND professor of  journalism, shares a commentary about his new calling, “Native Country Today.” ~~~ John Zernan is characterized as an anarchist and primitivist philosopher. He has a book out, called “A People’s History of Civilization,” which makes the claim that agriculture-based civilization is inherently oppressive and that the common person is burdened my modernity.
