Thursday, August 9 – There’s an increasing need for guardians, as more and more people have difficulty handling their own affairs. Here to discuss the growing need, and a growing shortage of guardians, are David Boeck and Judy DeWitz, of the North Dakota Protection & Advocacy Project, which advocates for the legal rights of North Dakotans with disabilities. ~~~ In another essay from the “Think Global, Act Local” column, Alexandre Cyusa discusses “Universal Language.” ~~~ In a story that ran earlier this week on Morning Edition, NPR’s Rebecca Hersher reports on the threat climate change poses for wild rice, a popular regional crop that’s particularly important to many Native Americans. ~~~ Sue Balcom of the Root Sellers farm near Mandan joins us with a discussion about canning, which traditionally had been … and still is … a busy activity in many homes. ~~~ Doug and Ashley have our What’s Happening calendar of events.
