The Legislature will be considering creating what’s called a “blue alert.”
"It would be similar to the Amber Alert, that's currently used for missing juveniles," said Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.
Stenehjem says a “blue alert” would be issued when a law enforcement officer is hurt or killed in the line of duty. He says the alert will be used to help catch those who attacked the officer.
"It's important that we broadcast the information when we have a suspect that the public can help us in apprehending," said Stenehjem. "We always make sure we're clear that the individuals are not to take any action themselves, but to alert law enforcement with information they have, so we can locate those people who can be exceedingly dangerous, as soon as possible."
Stenehjem says a number of other states have adopted the “blue alert.”
