Navy Ship to be named after Bismarck

The U.S. Navy has chosen to name a ship after the city of Bismarck.

Bismarck Mayor John Warford said the ship will be one of three joint high speed vessels. The official name of the ship will be USNS Bismarck.

“I was really taken aback when I heard this. This class of ships is named after small communities across the United States,” Warford said.

Warford said this ship is a tribute to the patriotism and support the Bismarck community has given to armed forces throughout the years.

“Yes indeed we are a patriotic community; we are a patriotic state,
Warford said. “If you look at statistics, 65 out of every 10,000 individuals are in our National Guard. That’s four times the national average.”

Construction of the ship will begin in February 2015.
