The tick season in North Dakota could be worse than normal due to the heavy rains and late start to summer.
Michelle Feist is an epidemiologist for the North Dakota Department of Health.
Feist said American Dog Ticks are commonly found in North Dakota. She said Deer Ticks, which carry Lime Disease, are not as common but can be found in the northeast part of the state.
"Some of the larva stages are developing so they (ticks) are looking for blood meals right now," Feist said. "It's a little more moist, so it's not as dry. As it dries up later in the summer these ticks are seeking shelter and are not as abundant."
Feist said people should protect themselves from ticks by wearing Deet and protective clothing.
