Health Department Recommends Vaccines Now

The North Dakota Department of Health encourages parents to start getting their children vaccinated now before the back-to-school rush happens.

Amy Schwartz is the immunization surveillance coordinator for the department of health. She said children going into kindergarten and middle school will need vaccines.

“There were quite a few pertussis cases last year, and quite a few of them were in schools. We’re just trying to avoid a lot of cases this year,” Schwartz said.

Schwartz said the growing population is another reason to get vaccines done earlier.
